Etsy's Kellan Elliot-McCrea and John Allspaw: Confidence in Production

LinkedIn Engineering will be hosting a public tech talk by Kellan Elliot-McCrea and John Allspaw at LinkedIn HQ on June 21, 2013 at 3pm. Refreshments will be served.
Kellan and John will be talking about Etsy's approach to continuous deployment and ongoing experimentation. They'll discuss how they use unit testing, monitoring, and other methods to gain confidence during the process of iterating and scaling.
Kellan Elliott-McCrea is the CTO of Etsy, which he joined in 2010. His previous roles include being an architect of Flickr and helping to build Odeo (which later became Twitter). He dropped out of college to sell his first startup to Palm Computing. One of the original authors of OAuth, he is passionate about the importance and power of the Open Web. He's also passionate about building great engineering cultures, scalable architectures, and coffee.
John Allspaw is the SVP of Technical Operations at Etsy. He's worked in systems operations for over fourteen years in biotech, government and online media. He started out tuning parallel clusters running vehicle crash simulations for the U.S. government, and then moved on to the Internet in 1997. He built the backing infrastructures at Salon, InfoWorld, Friendster, and Flickr. He's also the author of The Art of Capacity Planning published by O'Reilly.
