Getting to Know Carl Steinbach

Talent is LinkedIn’s number one operating priority and we have no shortage of talented individuals in technical roles across the company. These are the folks that create, build and maintain our platform, tools and features - as well as write the posts for this blog. We’re going to start giving some of the people and personalities that make LinkedIn great a chance to introduce themselves.

Carl Steinbach is a Senior Staff Software Engineer on my Data Analytics Infrastructure team and the Tech Lead for the Hadoop Development team.

Before joining LinkedIn, Carl was an engineer at Cloudera for over three years and made significant contributions to the open source community in his time there. He currently serves as the PMC Chair for Apache Hive, a Hadoop ecosystem project. While open source offers many reasons for positive endorsements, for Carl it was one of the more “unique, under-appreciated aspects” that drew him to that community – the chance for software engineers to be more than just a “nameless cog” and gain visibility for their work. In a sense, the open source community allows engineers to put a face behind the code.
