LinkedIn India Hackday - Bangalore 2014

May 23, 2014

LinkedIn Hackdays started out as a way of engaging and encouraging the creative juices of all employees. LinkedIn sets aside one Friday every month as a day to work on any project one can dream up, get it to completion in a day, and present it to the entire company including the executive staff, and win prizes. About three years ago, LinkedIn started hosting Hackdays for external hackers as well. This tradition was brought to Bangalore with the first ever India Hackday on March 28-29, 2014 to engage the hacker community in Bangalore and to celebrate the opening of our new offices in Prestige Tech Park.

India Hackday Bangalore received an amazing response with over 500 people registering within the few weeks leading to the event. We narrowed down the list and ended up with 85 talented hackers working through the night to produce some very impressive and high quality hacks.

There were 25 teams that produced complete hacks for a preliminary round of judging. Of these, 9 teams were selected to move forward in the competition and pitch their hacks to our judging panel.

We had four judges to determine the winning hacks:

The nine selected hacks were:
  • Spoor Us
Kadam Jeet Jain & Samyak Jain
  • SLEEP NOT OK PLEASE
Vardhan Koshal, Srivatsan Mohan, & Vipassana Vijayarangan
  • SpreadThem!
    Anurag Kyal
  • xKey
    Akshay Surve “DeltaX”
  • Connect
Sanjo Antony, Rahul, Anand, Joseph, & Sreejith
  • Quick Connect
Niketh Sabbineni, Ajay Narang, Rahul Bhatnagar, Niteesh Kumar, & Srivatsan
  • Reserved
    Siddhanth, Harman, & Ashish
  • Geek Stack
Raison D'Souza, Prateek Jain, Ashutosh Kumar
  • ChirpDin
    Pranay Airan
As can be seen, “Connect” seems to be unofficial theme of this hackday. Not surprising since this is a LinkedIn Hackday.

The hacks were quite impressive and it was tough to decide the winners.
